"If only someone would have told me about this earlier...!"
Have you ever thought this when making a minor or major (!) faux pas while living in another country?
Maybe you expected someone would greet you with a handshake and then... leaned in and kissed you unexpectedly?
Or you didn't offer a coffee or tea to a handyman because you didn't know it was expected from you?
Or maybe you waited days, weeks, months... for your neighbors to introduce themselves, but actually you were supposed to do take the first step?
Please tell me more about it!
As expats/internationals/accompanying partners etc. we might know some facts about the host culture, its history, geography etc. but what about the little things that nobody tells us, or tells us way too late?...
In this section What I wish I would have known earlier I invite you to share your personal experiences with the locals, the culture, the habits of the place you live(d)!
Please share the little gems of information that we can't find in any book or guide!
How it works?
1) Send me your topic(s) / idea(s) at info@UtesInternationalLounge.com.
2) I will contact you within 5 working days to discuss the details.
3) Once your contribution is accepted, I'll ask you to follow the submission guidelines indicated here below. – Please wait until I confirm your topic/contribution before sending anything!
Articles for submission must be previously unpublished.
They can be submitted in English, German, Italian, French or Dutch – they will be published in their original language.
They should be well-written, and I encourage grace as well as clarity. It is important that the articles are copy-edited carefully before submission. Drafts are not acceptable. In order to ensure diversity of subject matter, approaches, and voices, I will accept only one article by author.
